Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self-Assessment (ITSA) mandates that self-employed individuals and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 use HMRC-recognized software to maintain digital records and send quarterly updates, starting April 6, 2026​

  • Quarterly Updates: Send summaries of income and expenses to HMRC every three months.

  • Final Declaration: Submit a final declaration at the end of the year to finalize tax, replacing the traditional annual tax return.

  • Deadline:

  •  The final submission remains due by January 31st each year
